Housing for Life Queensland "a safe, secure and permanent home"
A privately funded model of accommodation with support for our sons, daughters, family members with Schizophrenia.
As a group of older mothers we are concerned as to what accommodation with support, is currently available for our mentally ill family member, sons, daughters.
But of more concern; what would happen to them once we are gone?
Housing for Life Queensland became the project for accommodation for life with support for our family member and for us parents ‘peace of mind’.
To have a safe, secure and permanent home for life with 24/7 support. To build a complex of twelve individual one bedroom self-contained apartments. One apartment being for the support person. That each evening all the residents would gather for a well balanced meal in a common dining area as an ‘extended family’
Assist residents to achieve as independent a life as possible, to reach their full potential, be it back in the workforce, voluntary work, personal hygiene care, develop social skills and enjoy leisure activities.
That the eleven individual private apartments are in a Strata Titled Complex, owned by the family Trust. That when no longer required the appartments can be sold, and proceeds return to the family estate.
We are close to achieving our required number of residents, and currently in discussion with a building company. Also reviewing possible properties close to public transport and hospitals. As well as having conferences with various government professional services.
Not only giving our family members accommodation but a quality of life with an assisted programme to participate within the life of the Community
All things being equal, we anticipate to be operational in a twelve month's time span.
